Mid-Season Status: Western Michigan
By Liz Holbrook
Western Michigan women's golf had a strong start to the fall season. Beginning with the A-Ga-Ming Invitational, the Broncos finished third with senior Megha Vallabhaneni (Northville, Mich. / Northville HS), placing fourth by carding a stroke under par for the tournament. Junior Bella Brooks (Nicholasville, Ky. / Lexington Catholic) also had a strong debut, placing fifth in the individual standings, hitting par for the tournament with a score of 228. In the final round, Brooks tied the Broncos’ program record for the lowest individual round at a tournament with a 66 at six under par.
WMU also won a team title at their home tournament, the WMU Fall Classic. With a total score of 926 (+62) with rounds of 301-302-323, the Broncos tied with the Dayton Flyers. But sophomore Saanvi Venkatesh earned the Broncos the tournament title with a 56-hole score of 241 in 25th place to give WMU the tiebreaker, and first tournament win for Head Coach Matt Zedrik, leading the Broncos.
