College Corner: Eastern Mich Men

By Dan McLean

Eastern Michigan enters the 2026–27 men’s golf season with one of the deepest and most competitive rosters in the MAC, combining elite returning talent with a nationally recognized incoming class. Under Head Coach Andy Walker, the Eagles return a decorated trio: MAC Player of the Year Charlie Box, MAC Freshman of the Year Robby Turnbull, and AllMAC Second Team selection Joshua Hess.

The roster builds further with six highimpact newcomers. Senior, Arsit Areephun (Delaware) brings polished Division I experience, while sophomore Felipe Suarez arrives from Missouri Valley College after winning the NAIA Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.

Fifth year, Thomas Buisson (Abilene Christian) adds length, maturity, and competitive toughness. EMU also welcomes three premier freshmen: Parin Sarasmut of Thailand and Vicente Quiroga of Bolivia — both ranked inside the Top 100 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) — and Ben Sessions of the United Kingdom, one of the top performers in the European Junior Golf rankings. Together, they form one of the strongest incoming classes in program history.

The 2026–27 schedule is built for national competition. EMU opens at the Bombs Darts Birds Collegiate (Sept. 7–8) hosted by USC, followed by the Highlands Invitational (Sept. 21–22) at Chicago Highlands. October features dual competition at Nemacolin — the Collegiate at Mystic Rock and the Individual at Shepherd’s Rock (Oct. 5–6) — before closing the fall at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 19–21).

Spring delivers championshiplevel tests: The Prestige (Feb. 15–17) at PGA West, Wyoming Desert (Feb. 22–24), Sam Ryder Intercollegiate (Mar. 1–2), and EMU’s signature home event, the Players Collegiate (Mar. 21–22) at TPC Sawgrass. April features the Calusa Cup (Apr. 6–8) and The Mountaineer (Apr. 12–13) before the Eagles chase a title at the MAC Championship (May 3–5).

With elite returners, highceiling newcomers, and a schedule built for postseason advancement, EMU enters 2026–27 as a top MAC contender with hopes of NCAA Championship pursuit.

College Corner: Eastern Michigan Women

By Dan McLean

Eastern Michigan enters the 2026–27 women’s golf season with national momentum, programdefining depth, and a schedule built to showcase the Eagles on the biggest stages — including a nationally televised appearance at the East Lake Cup on Golf Channel.

Under Head Coach Josh Brewer, now in his third season, EMU is coming off its greatest year ever: the first NCAA Regional berth, the first NCAA National Championship appearance, and a stunning matchplay victory over Texas before falling to eventual national champion Stanford. The Eagles didn’t just arrive — they proved they belong.

The returning core remains one of the strongest midmajor units in the country. Baiyok Sukterm, Janae Leovao, Jasmine Leovao, and Savannah de Bock anchor the lineup with sub73 scoring averages and postseason experience. Erina Tan and Juliana Go return as steady, pressuretested contributors, while sophomore Matilde Zocchi continues to develop as a highceiling scorer.

EMU adds three newcomers who elevate the roster’s competitive ceiling:

  • Karen Tsuru (transfer, Oregon) — Pac12 pedigree and nationalchampionship experience.

  • Constanza Quiroga (transfer, Troy) — consistent, battletested Sun Belt performer.

  • Laura Georgees Baeta (freshman) — a highupside international addition with elite junior results.

The 2026–27 schedule is built for national relevance: Chambers Bay (Sept. 14–15), Golfweek Challenge (Sept. 21–23), Prairie Dunes (Oct. 5–6), Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 19–21), and the programdefining East Lake Cup (Oct. 26–27). Spring features major ranking opportunities at Palm Desert, Valencia, Gainesville, Tallahassee, and Napa, leading into the MAC Championship (Apr. 26–28) and another NCAA postseason push.
